Jesus the Bridegroom King and Us

The greatest of all songs drives home the truth of Jesus’ intense and all-surrounding love for you and me. Consider some of the Bridegroom King’s words found in the Song and how they demonstrate His passion for you.

“You are my darling companion. You stand out from among all the rest.” (Only Jesus can say that to each of us and it be true toward each of us.) In another place, He asserts that each of us is His “radiant one.”

That’s how Jesus feels about you and me ALL THE TIME – from before our first breaths and continuing every second of our lives. You are always His darling, His radiant one, His love, His beautiful companion.

“Arise, my love, my beautiful companion…”

Song of Songs 2:10

We are His darling even as He reveals harmful attachments in our heart that He needs to free us from. As He frees us from those attachments, we move unhindered into His glorious presence. And during the “cleaning-up process” we don’t go through a time of separation from His love until the cleaning up is complete. The Shulamite maiden felt unclean and mistakenly assumed that her uncleanness separated her from His love. The Bridegroom King assured her, as He assures us, that His constant love remains.

Indeed, Jesus promises that not only will His love remain constant during times of purification, but also that His love will initiate and empower the purification process.

One modern translation captures the tender affection of the Bridegroom King who calls us to Himself:

“You must catch the little foxes that hinder our relationship. They raid our budding vineyard of love to ruin what I’ve planted within you. Will you catch them and remove them for me? We will do it together.”

Song of Songs 2:15

Let’s pray this together: “Father, You constantly love me. Jesus’ love for me never fails. Thank You. Help me remove those things from my heart that hinder my relationship with Jesus – those things that hinder the eternal love relationship with Him that You have destined for me. Thank You for helping me and for completing the good work that You have begun in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
