The Head And Not The Tail
Quang became a true orphan when she was six. Her loving grandmother stepped in to help and raised her until she became too feeble to continue. At that time, Quang went to live with a distant family relative who had a large family.
In her new village home, life was hard. Quang tended to have work that no one else wanted to do. Her younger relatives attended school full time, but Quang was was not able to do that and attended school only ½ days. She ate rice and vegetables mainly and seldom meat, while her relatives tended to get more fish and meat with their vegetables. In some ways, Quang became “the tail.”
Her grandmother saw that Quang’s life was hard and she asked the director of a rural orphanage to give Quang a home. Her grandmother thought that if she lived at the orphanage, she could go to school full time.
The orphanage was, and is, supported by Orphan Voice and our staff visits there weekly. With Orphan Voice support, Quang began her new life at the orphanage.
There, she found loving caregivers, plenty to eat, medical care, and she went to school full time! She became a favorite of orphanage caregivers and Orphan Voice staff and began feeling better about herself.
After graduation from high school, Quang attended and graduated from college with Orphan Voice’s help. She now holds a full time job and supports herself.
And what about her distant relatives who so many years ago treated her as “the tail?” None of those relatives attended college. They can’t believe the transformation in Quang’s life and say: “Look at what happened to Quang!”

Growing in Hope
Ny now has a good job. She is working, paying rent, living with a roommate, taking care of herself and is a member of a Vietnamese fellowship.
Here is what Ny wants to say to Orphan Voice partners:
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wouldn’t have a college degree without your help. I wouldn’t have a good-paying job without your help. I wouldn’t have anything, if you hadn’t helped me. You have changed my life.”
When you give to Orphan Voice, you enable young people to exert their work, gifts and abilities to make it on their own. To help another child like Ny, donate here.
