Tiny ones were abandoned in the dark of night.

Each one had been lovingly wrapped in blankets and placed in boxes — those boxes then left at the doorposts of Temples and government buildings. Perhaps tear-filled eyes watched from a distance until daylight came.

When found by monks or government workers, many of the babies were covered with ants.

For the first time in twenty years of our ministry together, we write to ask for your financial help to take care of nine abandoned babies and toddlers.

Usually when we write, we’re thinking about the funds needed to provide for our deaf kids, those with disabilities (including now children from Eastern Europe), sexually abused children in Vietnam and Cambodia who you’ve embraced, those you help protect from traffickers, poor families becoming self-sufficient through your training programs, and persecuted Burmese Christians who’ve fled their homes because of violent revolutions.

But in the middle of our normal work and financial obligations, this unexpected need comes to us.

What do we do with these babies?

Relying on God’s Grace, we made a simple decision: we will care.

What about their mothers?

We don’t know the moms, of course, but believe that they’re like others we have known.

They’re young and afraid. They may have been traumatized by rape. Or to their distress, they may have been abandoned by a boy who promised love. These young moms probably faced their family’s disappointment.

Today, they likely believe that they’re unloved. They’re consumed by the worry of “how is my baby?” They pray that “the ancestors,” — perhaps a deceased grandmother — will somehow protect their child. Their constant thought is:

“Con cua toi co on khong?”

“Is my baby safe?”

Our hearts yearn for these young moms — let’s agree that the Father reveals Himself and His great love to each one. This is part of His redemptive plan for them and their little ones.

Today we must care for the babies.

We ask for your help. Please send in your most generous gift today to pay for diapers, milk, caregivers, and other needed supplies.

There’s good news for these children. Most of them will be adopted within 2-3 years. Your gift is the bridge that carries them safely into the arms of their adoptive moms and dads.

Thank you again for loving these precious ones who Jesus calls “the least of these, my brothers.”

There is an urgent need for more caregivers, formula, diapers, clothes, and other baby items.

     Can you help today?
