Laos Outreach: Appalling Poverty, Precious People

A few weeks ago, you sent a small team on a fact-finding trip across the Laos border to a forgotten village. We had heard of a great need in the area. Although this team regularly serves impoverished people, conditions in Hua Na village shocked them. Here is an excerpt of the report from that trip, written by our senior Vietnamese manager, Daisy. Her heartwrenching account moved us deeply. We are sure you will feel the same.

In Daisy’s words...

We met an elderly lady who lives alone in a stilt house that looks like sticks. It hurt my heart... in rainy or hot weather, she cannot come out because she is a leper. She did not get any medical treatment, and the people of the village are worried about getting infected by her, so they bring food and drink for her daily. Every living activity will be there, and the wastewater goes through the floor to the ground below. She was naked and only able to use one hand to hold the water and food. When I saw her, my heart dropped, and it was hard for me to keep going. I can't believe that something like that is still happening -- an abandoned, sick old lady living isolated from others. I needed to temporarily stop, pray, and call the name of Jesus for this lady, these people, and this land. Asking Him to guide me and step with me forward.

Hua Na village has many needs. Water filtration, a functional school, adequate housing, and food cultivation are just a few. This remote village is isolated and largely forgotten. Jesus has not forgotten the people there.
