The share-cropper farmers of Tien Phuoc district are poor. A few years ago, a Christian teen fled Tien Phuoc for Danang, hoping to find a good job. There, he married and had four children over the next ten years. However, he struggled to feed his young family. In desperation, the wife took their only daughter, left her husband and sons, and returned to her mother in the countryside. She soon remarried. The oldest boy went to live with his grandparents, but they were unwilling to help with the two youngest children.
Undernourished, Lom, was the youngest of two boys left with his father. From the age of 4, Lom stayed alone in their one-room home during the day while his older brothers were at school and his dad worked low-paying jobs. He passed the day by playing with the geckos that scurried about--or worse, wandering outside. Twice he was attacked by wild dogs. In 2022, a bankrupted, weak, and hopeless father asked City Social Services to take care of Lom and his brother. Your love provided a home for them at Promise House.
Now, you provide house mothers, tutors, and Christian mentors to minister to Lom. That’s a lot of loving attention, and Lom needs every bit of it. He eats three daily meals for the first time in his life. A roof you provide keeps him dry during the rainy season. He’s learned what an indoor shower is - and he uses it! He drinks milk - lots of it! He’s gained several pounds! He plays soccer, badminton, and pickleball with boys his age and not with geckos anymore. He goes to kindergarten and his caregivers help him with homework.
