When Love Becomes a Home

A Life of Loss and Struggle

As a shy 7-year-old, Mai came to Promise House in 2010 well-acquainted with hardship. Early in Mai’s life, her father had abandoned the family to return to his former wife. Mai’s mother struggled for a few years trying to provide, first in the rural rice fields of her hometown, then peddling lottery tickets on the streets of Danang. Barely school age, Mai was left alone for long hours, often with little food. Finally, in desperation, her mother contacted local authorities to place Mai in an orphanage. At Promise House, Mai found more than good food, clothing, education, and medical care. For the first time in her young life, she found home: safety, stability, acceptance, hope. At Christmas, Mai wrote a note to express her heart. She entitled it “A Home – A Mom.”

“…no matter how good or bad we are, or if we make mistakes,
you will always accept and love us with
an unconditional and very precious love!”

-Mai-

A Home - A Mom

We - like the birds - are mature enough to fly away from the Promise House family to begin our journey. For us, Promise House is not only a home that has nurtured and supported us for a long time, but Promise House is like our mom. Someone who taught us many valuable life lessons before we started flying.

There are many times on the journey, we feel tired and the mom - Promise House - is the first person I think of. We want to share with her every difficulty that we have or the wonderful joys that we receive. We know that no matter how good or bad we are, or if we make mistakes, you will always accept and love us with an unconditional and very precious love!
